'X-Files' star angry over 'Marry a Millionaire' ratings success
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" has "X-Files" star David Duchovny steamed.
"It was a travesty when it was popular. Now it's a travesty that it's a hoax," Duchovny told TV's syndicated "Entertainment Tonight" in an interview for broadcast Thursday.
With tongue-in-cheek, Duchovny suggested that Fox Television broadcast a sequel titled, "How to Marry a Broke Girlfriend Beater."
The Feb. 15 special was a ratings sensation that quickly backfired after criticism by women's groups and revelations that millionaire Rick Rockwell had been accused of threatening an ex-girlfriend. He denies the accusations.
Duchovny, whose show also airs on Fox, was angry at the special's large audience.
"We work our butts off every week to make an entertaining show and then these game shows come on and they kick our butts in the ratings and it's really embarrassing," he said.
"They just throw a million dollars at people and half the country tunes in.... And what does that say about our country?"
