The actor, who's in Rome to present the movie "Return to me" says: 8 more
episode, then I'll leave The X-files
Duchovny: goodbye aliens, I'd rather be on planet cinema.
"My character? A husband who doesn't want to give up on his wife. My dream?
A movie with Roberto Benigni"
by Leonardo Jattarelli
Rome -
He smiles. He shows a "smile" he made with a pencil on a sheet. It's like
he's saying "I want to have fun again, set me free from The X-files", but
meanwhile Agent Fox Mulder is still there. David Duchovny, who's in Rome to
promote his movie "Return to me", a sweet comedy in '50 style with Minnie
Driver and by Bonnie Hunt, will be once again the smart FBI detective, star
of the never-ending TV drama (we are watching the 6th season). But on his
conditions. "In the sense that I I'm not going to film the whole 22
episodes - he clears - but only 8. I'll be on the set 3 months instead of
10. The reason is that I want to do something different, I got some
projects, different movies".
His first attempt to move away [from XF] was to accept the role of Bob in
Return to me. He's a husband deeply in love with his wife, his destiny is to
remain alone at her sudden death. But destiny [also] set that her heart will
be transplant in Grace, who's been waiting for it for months to start a new
life. And then, as logic of fairytales says, Bob and Grace will meet by
chance, they'll fall in love etc. etc. (sic!)
Duchovny, a 40 years old good guy who spends his time - he confesses -
writing poetry and doing yoga, clears immediately that whatever was written
about him [and his troubles] with the famous TV serial are not true: "It's a
lie, for example, that I asked for 1 million dollars per episode to say yes
again. I went in court for a different reason: my share in profits for the
previous seasons, which were not respected [by Fox]. But it's true that now
XF limits me too much and I so I had to stop it". Not many people knows, for
example, that because of Fox Mulder "I could not work in Oliver Stone's
movie Every Given Sunday. I was filming XF in New York (?) and the other was
filmed in Florida". Do you have project in Italy? "Why not, I don't know you
your cinema very well actually - he admits - but if Roberto Benigni calls me
I'd accept immediately".
